The importance of caregivers in the homecare industry cannot be overstated. Care professionals are the backbone of the industry and provide vital services to our loved ones so they can live comfortably and safely in their homes. This month Synergy would like to spotlight another all star care professional, Tyia!

Tyia is an amazingly gifted caregiver with a knack for connecting with others. From a young age, with the help of her mother, she took care of her paralyzed granddad. She says caring for her family never felt like a job. It came natural to her and she was able to help those she loved. She recalls how she watched with interest the days when care professionals came to their home and helped her granddad further. Her curiosity was sparked as she took in how they did things like check his vitals and help him change and walk around. As early as the 5th grade Tyia knew she too wanted to be in the medical field! Her first job was as a sitter helping parents and disabled kids, followed by a hands on job assisting a wheel chair bound client. The client was blown away to learn it was Tyias’s first job and expressed how natural she was! Tyia is currently a full time caregiver with Synergy and her clients love and trust her like family.

For some clients, caregivers are the people they interact with regularly, which highlights the importance of their relationship. Care professionals like Tyia play an essential role in providing emotional support to their clients. With her presence and good energy Tyia is a close companion and confidant, offering a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on during difficult times. Tyia builds trust and forms relationships with her clients effortlessly. She leaves her problems at the door and makes sure to cater to each individual. She explained , “You have to realize that the client isn’t able to do things they are used to doing. Know they get frustrated and it is your job to be empathetic and listen”.

Caregivers may spend lots of time with their clients, more so than their healthcare providers, giving them a unique perspective on the client’s needs and abilities and ensures that appropriate care is being provided. Tyia’s clients and their families know and trust Tyia with their loved ones. Tyia is very observant with what they need on different days. For example, one client is over 100 and is nonverbal. Tyia explained, “ Some days I come in and can see she may need a smile or to laugh and other times just to relax and listen to music”. Tyia is in tune with her clients which allows them to relax and know they can be themselves and be taken care of. With another bed bound client Tyia has them play creative sports games. For example, one game they play is forming trash balls and see who can make baskets in the trash can! Tyia is an expert at catering to each individual and their specific needs.

Caregivers are essential in the homecare industry, and their importance cannot be overstated. They provide vital support and help our loved ones navigate challenging seasons of life. Care professionals like Tyia are truly the unsung heroes of the homecare industry, and her dedication and hard work are greatly appreciated. Thank you Tyia!!
