Understanding Long Term Care Insurance
At SYNERGY HomeCare, we understand that people are happiest and healthiest where they are most comfortable—in their own homes.
From hourly to around-the-clock care, we offer a wide range of support services so your loved one can confidently age in place in the familiarity and comfort of their own home. And with the growing number of seniors utilizing Long Term Care Insurance (LTCI), we make it easy to understand and access those benefits to get the quality in-home support they deserve.
What is Long Term Care Insurance?
Long Term Care Insurance (LTCI) is designed to bridge the gap and cover costs that Medicare and traditional health insurance don’t for seniors who may need some help taking care of themselves later in life. This includes assistance with routine daily activities, like bathing, dressing or even getting in and out of bed.
A LTCI policy helps cover the costs of that care when you are living with a chronic medical condition, disability or disorder such as Alzheimer’s disease. Most policies will reimburse you for care given in your own home.
How Does Long Term Care Insurance Work?
Under most LTCI policies, a person becomes eligible for benefits when they can’t manage at least two out of six “activities of daily living,” called ADLs, on their own or if they are living with dementia or another cognitive impairment.
- Bathing
- Incontinence Care
- Dressing
- Eating
- Toileting (getting on or off the toilet)
- Transferring (getting in or out of a bed or a chair)
